The 2nd ISA Invasion Fleet was the second wave of assault that took part in Operation Archangel. It was composed of the Battle Group Mandrake lead by fleet commander Colonel Jan Templar who commanded the whole force from his flagship, the New Sun.

Objectives[]

The role of the second wave of assault in Helghan was to eliminate the remaining orbital defenses in the planet and capture Pyrrhus and Konstantine among others tactical points from the advanced outposts that were supposed to be established by the 1st ISA Invasion Fleet. Their main goal was to capture Scolar Visari in Pyrrhus, to be judged for his war crimes.

Helghan Assault[]

Initially they succeded in their goals despite the casualties caused by heavy Helghast antiaircraft fire while entering the Helghan atmosphere. Under the command of Jan Templar the troops achieved to partially take control of the Helghast capital, Pyrrhus, and other points of the planet.

However, the ISA cruisers suffered several casualties, including the New Sun. After evacuating the ship, Templar, mortally wounded, crashed the very damaged New Sun into a petrusite grid, clearing a way for the ISA ground forces. Then, the detonation of the Red Dust, an stolen ISA high-tech nuclear bomb, ordered by Visari, obliterated the ISA forces in Pyrrhus.

With their main Battle Group devastated, and with their fleet commander killed in action, the 2nd Invasion Force was decimated. Despite this, a surviving joint ISA Marines and ISA legionnaires group commanded by Captain Jason Narville, managed to reach Visari Palace. Alpha Squad secured the building and killed Colonel Mael Radec in the process, but unintentionally killed Visari, ruining the original plans.

Evacuation[]

After the death of Visari, the ISA High Command ordered the remaining components of the three waves of assault to retreat to the cruisers and evacuate the planet.

Assisted by the supporting troops of the 3rd ISA Invasion Fleet, the survivors of the 2nd wave managed to evacuate, except for some stranded forces, mainly from Battle Group Mandrake, the most damaged group of the entire fleet.
