The 3rd ISA Invasion Fleet was the last wave of assault of Operation Archangel.
Purpose[]
The objectives of the Fleet were originally:
- Reinforce the ground forces of the two previous wave of assault and eventually relieve them
- Eliminate the remains of Helghast opposition
- Set up a military control over the planet as previous step to the establishment of a more easily controlled regime, ending the oppression that sparked the conflict
- Escort Battle Group Mandrake with Visari captured to Vekta
Change of Plans and Evacuation[]
The near destruction of the 1st Invasion Fleet, the death of their commander, Admiral Alex Grey, the near annihilation of Battle Group Mandrake, the main Battle Group of the 2nd Invasion Fleet, the disappearance of their fleet commander, Colonel Jan Templar, and the death of Visari swiftly changed the role of the 3rd Invasion Fleet into that of an evacuation force.
The 3rd ISA Invasion Forces expended most of their capabilities in an attempt to repress the Helghast counterattack and aid the 1st and 2nd Fleet forces in their retreat from Helghan, following the orders of ISA High Command.
Despite the Helghast fleets, MAWLRs and Arc towers constant attacks against them, the supporting troops and cruisers of the 3rd ISA Invasion Fleet allowed several ISA ships to successfully evacuate the planet along with a sizable portion of the ISA marines. Unfortunately, even with the support of the third wave, many ISA ships were still destroyed in the attempt to evacuate, stranding a large portion of ISA marines and ISA Legionnaires on Helghan without support or any way off the world.
Trivia[]
- The cruisers of the 3rd ISA Invasion Fleet among with the ones that survived from the 1st and 2nd, served as escorts during the relocation of the Helghan refugees after the Terracide.
- Some of the ISA marines of the 3rd ISA Invasion Fleet were UCA and ISA volunteers on secondment from Earth and other colonies.
