The A.T.A.C., ATAC, or A-TAC (Agile Tactical Air Component) is a Helghast flying assault vehicle in Killzone 2, Killzone 3, and Killzone Shadow Fall.

Specifications[]

The ATAC is one of the most advanced fighter aircraft designed by the Helghast. It was originally transported to Vekta for combat trials by the Elite Guard. Though originally built to offer room to a single pilot, later models were designed to be operated unmanned via remote control, due to a high number of crashes during live tests.

Though it has been under development for quite some time, the Helghast have gathered useful data during trial runs which has enabled them to make useful development modifications before the ATAC would go into final production. However, after the destruction of the SD Platform on Vekta, the Helghast have been forced to push the ATAC into active service as part of their defense against the ISA invasion.

Weapons[]

The ATAC is a relatively small, fast, and extremely maneuverable attack vehicle that is armed with a variety of devastating weaponry. The ATAC is equipped with three independently functioning weapon systems: an auto-tracking machine gun, four missile launchers, and two mounted machine guns.

Killzone 2[]

The ATAC first appears during the mission Blood Meridian, however it is only seen during a cutscene. The ATAC is first fought in a boss battle on the rooftop of Radec Academy in Salamun Bridge.

Tactics[]

The ATAC is a fast, evasive, and extremely aggressive boss in Salamun Bridge. On the rooftop are a number of VC9 Rocket Launchers, but the ATAC is too evasive to be hit. However, down on the lower level near the tunnel are electrical poles crackling with energy; shooting their glowing conduits will unleash an electrical disturbance that will arc to the ATAC and keep it stunned and in place long enough to be fire with VC9 rockets. If you need to find a decent cover, rush one level down and hide in the tunnels while Sev regenerates.

An ATAC is later encountered in Visari Palace before the fight with Mael Radec. The last ATAC is a weaker version of the Boss ATAC, and it lacks missiles. It can easily dispatched with proficient weapons (such as the StA-3 LMG, distractions from ISA NPCs, and proper cover.

Killzone 3[]

The ATAC is only encountered in the mission "Stahl Arms Infiltration".

Tactics[]

Eliminate all other Helghast enemies before directly engaging the ATAC. There is a weapon rack holding VC9s in a hangar with an ammo crate. For a fast dispatch, use the VC9 while taking cover in the hangar.

There is a Jetpack outside the door of the building you exited to reach the ATAC's area. You can use it to engage the ATAC in aerial combat. The ATAC's aim is usually thrown off when you are much higher off the ground, making it easier for you to attack the ATAC with the Jetpack's SMG before having to take evasive action.

Killzone Shadow Fall[]

The ATAC appears in chapter five, The Helghast, when Lucas Kellan passes through security and enters the Helghan sector of Vekta City. The ATAC is used for defense and security purposes, using a laser detector to detect hostile personnel. Once it detects its target, the ATAC calls for backup and deals with the target itself.

Trivia[]

  • According to principal visual designer Miguel Angel Martinez, the ATAC was designed to be a flying machine agile like a helicopter and armored like a tank. Its body is based on a wasp with a gun as the sting pointing forward and the upper levitation wings as the unfolded wings of a bat.[1]
