The United Colonial Nations had colonized numerous planets across space from Altair to Alpha Centauri. Most planets are under the jurisdiction of the UCN from Earth. Others, however, are made independent from the UCN such as the Independent Colonial Strategic Alliance.

History[]

The demand for space colonization began in 2060 when Earth was devastated in a global nuclear war over scarce resources. In response to Earth's depleted resources, a coalition of governments and companies formed the United Colonial Nations and called for colonizing outlying planets to secure raw materials and ensuring the survival of the human race. By 2095, colony ships began leaving Earth and bound for various planets within the Sol system.

As humanity continues to expand across space, the UCN established the United Colonial Army to administer the new colonies. The UCN would later created the Interplanetary Strategic Alliance for colonial systems to police and manage their territory.

Around 2111, the Alpha Centauri system was identified as an ideal "hub" system between Earth and the outlying colony sites. In 2116, the UCN's colonization efforts was briefly financially crippled by the loss of six colony ships. In desperation, the UCN sold the bidding rights for Alpha Centauri to the Helghan Corporation. By the end of the 22nd century, the Helghan Corporation took full economic and industrial advantage of their colonies Vekta and Helghan, and exerting their control over star travel and trade under the Helghan Administration.

In the early 23rd century, war broke out in Alpha Centauri when the Helghan Administration seceded from the UCN after refusing to concede to the UCN's regulations that would strip the Administration's rights to a large home fleet and tariffs on shipping. The UCA was dispatched to crush the Helghan secession in the First Extrasolar War. The war's aftermath had left far reaching consequences in Alpha Centauri as the Helghan colonists were forced to resettle to planet Helghan and endured over a century of sanctions, and ultimately falling under the rule of the totalitarian Helghan Empire. Alpha Centauri became embroiled in the Second Extrasolar War in 2357 in which it ended with the planet-wide devastation of Helghan in the Terracide.

Not all colonies are under the jurisdiction of the UCN. Other colonies remained independent from the UCN and some are members of the unaligned Independent Colonial Strategic Alliance, which they are referred to as "breakaway colonies". Around the early 24th century the UCA and ISA had engaged against colonial unrest and insurgency on independent planets such as Arcturus and Delta Pavonis.

List of known colonies[]

Sol system[]

Alpha Centauri[]

  • Vekta - One of the UCN's most successful colonies. It is of great strategic importance, as it is a jump point between Earth and its numerous other colonies, as well as a supplier of food and other resources. Vekta has a long history with the Helghast, formerly of planet Helghan.
  • Helghan - A planet named after the Helghan Corporation, a company that had won the bidding rights to the planet from the UCN. Helghan was originally known for its shipbuilding and rich mineral resources. After the First Extrasolar War however, it became the birthplace of the Helghast and the Helghan Empire. By the time of the Second Extrasolar War, most of the planet's population had died in the Terracide. All Helghast now live on Vekta or other colony worlds.
