Killzone Wiki

The campaign of Killzone is centered around the invading Helghast forces during the Second Extrasolar War. Scolar Visari, after years of preparation, has finally decided to set his plans in motion and attempt to reclaim Vekta for the Helghan nation. The protagonists of the game are Jan Templar, Luger, Gregor Hakha and Rico Velasquez. The antagonists of the game are the traitor Stuart Adams, and commander of the Helghast Third Army, Joseph Lente.

Campaign Chapters[]

Helghast Assault[]

The first chapter of the campaign, the Helghast forces have invaded Vekta and Captain Templar is cut off from the rest of the ISA forces. With his allies, Templar attempts to form up with the main defensive line of the ISA forces. The original trenches that the ISA hold are abandoned due to the overwhelming Helghast forces.

Making their way to a small bunker, the ISA forces under captain Templar have to cross through nomansland, covered with barbed wire, all the while being bombarded with artillery strikes. The ISA forces, backed up by Templar and his men, manage to secure the secondary line of defense by taking out the Helghast forces which have breached the trenches, or are advancing on the bunkers.

Having successfully made his way into the city, captain Templar meets up with other ISA forces, which have successfully beaten back the first Helghast assault. Even so, they are pinned down by sniper fire, and need support if they wish to advance further. After killing the sniper, and beating back a Helghast ambush, the forces slowly fall back to the ISA headquarters.

While on their way to the HQ, they are met with more Helghast resistance, including another sniper, while artillery strikes continue to take place. Eventually, Templar meets up with other ISA forces, having to face off against a Helghast APC and Helghan infantry, before advancing further, where they will find a couple ISA soldiers, a destroyed ISA 117D lancer, as well as hostile Helghast forces and a Helghast tank. With the remaining ISA, captain Templar continues on his way to the HQ.

While at supply station, the ISA forces are ambushed by overwhelming Helghast numbers, including a jet bike. While advancing deeper into the building, more Helghast forces attempt to fight back against the ISA, including another two jet bikes and two tanks.

Having dealt with these hostiles, captain Templar makes it to the outer parts of the HQ, just in time to aid in holding off a Helghast assault on the base. The CO of the outer base, a sergeant, who is interrupted while talking by radio chatter about the incoming Helghast assault. Two APCs will drop off Helghast infantry, followed shortly by a Helghast tank approaching, until being taken out by ISA lancers.

Despite this victory, Helghast forces broke through the west perimeter. Captain Templar is escorted to General Vaughton to discuss the next course of action. Shortly after entering the base interior, Helghast forces are encountered, with dead ISA forces on the floor nearby. A short walk further, more Helghast forces are found, fighting against allied ISA troops. After the Helghast are defeated, a dropship comes in to drop off more Helghast forces in an attempt to take the base. Eventually the Helghast are defeated, and Templar finally meets the General.

The General is located in the communnications headquarters, which have suffered due to the attack. The ISA being overwhelmed, General Vaughton aims to get up to the SD platform in order to reset them and blast the Helghast forces out of the sky. Vaughton sends captain Templar to retrieve Hakha, an infield agent, from the malls of Vekta, where he was last seen with allied forces.

Vekta Evacuates[]

The ISA HQ was hit by an airstrike, and the security key, which the General needed for the SD platform, did not arrive. As such, Templar sets out to retrieve the key while Helghast forces are swarming into the ISA headquarters. Fighting his way through the devastated headquarters, Templar comes across various ISA forces having to face off against the Helghast. At the power station, Templar arrives just in time to reinforce a small ISA force when the Helghast attack. However, other ISA forces were already killed prior.

A little bit further, a massive crater is found from an airstrike, with Helghast forces located around it. After defeating the Helghast on the lower part of the power station, ISA forces get a radio report about required assistance in the courtyard. At the courtyard, Helghast forces advance from several directions, and two jet bikes destroys one of the central obelisks while Templar and his team fight back against the hostile forces, all the while air defense systems are firing at Helghast forces in the sky. One of the walls to the courtyard is breached by the Helghast, who come pouring in. Upon defeating the final Helghast forces, the main building turns out to have been evacuated, allowing Templar the means to enter the research building.

Inside the research building, the corpses of a couple of ISA forces are found, with smoke coming from deeper in the facility, making it clear that the Helghast have also found a way into the building. Not much deeper into the building, Helghast forces are found at a staircase. Even deeper into the building, at the server room, a couple of ISA soldiers managed to survive, but were pinned down by the Helghast. Templar has to help them fight off the invaders. After defeating the Helghast, the ISA soldiers provide Templar with the key that General Vaughton needs for the SD platform, and the troops make their way to the comms building, where an evac has been organized.

Now, in possession of the key, Helghast forces try their best to stop Templar and obtain the key for themselves, all the while encountering numerous ISA corpses along the way. The surviving ISA forces stay behind to prevent Helghast forces from entering the comms building. Even so, ISA forces within the comms building itself already have to face off against Helghast troops. Within the building itself, the Helghast have already infiltrated deeply, with ISA corpses being found on several locations. Within the generator room, the first heavy Helghast soldiers are found, carrying machine guns.

While fighting through the Helghast, a message over the intercom informs Templar that, due to overwhelming Helghast forces, General Vaughton has had to abandon the evacuation point. As such, Templar still has to keep fighting in order to get out of the ISA HQ. In the main comms building, an overwhelming Helghast force is encountered, consisting of heavy, regular, and light infantry. Having defeated the Helghast, Templar looks for the General, and is nearly assassinated by a Helghast sniper. However, Luger kills the sniper and the two team up to find Hakha and the General.

At the same time, aboard the SD Platform, General Adams attempted to bypass the security protocol due to the absense of Vaughton's security key. Because of this, the general made passive aggressive remarks towards one of his soldiers who he had tasked with hacking into the system.

New Allies[]

With Luger and Templar on a joint mission, the two proceed into the train system, which has partly collapsed from constant bombardings. Helghast forces having already advanced into the tunnels after killing the ISA on guard. Above ground, ISA forces from the train station are fighting Helghast forces from the other side, where a considerable hostile force have garrisoned the building. With the aid of Luger, the ISA forces are able to blow up the gate keeping them out, and advance into the building. Defeating the Helghast forces inside, Luger and Templar advance into the park.

Arriving inside the park, it turns out to have been overrun by the Helghast, who have set up camps and defensible positions within, including mounted machineguns and anti-air defense systems. Dropships of the Helghast being able to freely fly over the park. ISA forces which were stationed near the train system being found dead near an obelisk, while other ISA stragglers have to face off against the Helghast forces. Deeper in the park, the Helghast presence increases, with more Helghast infantry, and a Helghast sniper being present.

An airstrike time by the name of TacAir4 contacts Luger and Templar, requesting them to take out the anti-air guns so he can destroy one of the Helghast dropships. Despite resistance by the Helghast ground forces, the two manage to take out the anti-air guns, allowing TacAir to take out the dropship. After having done so, the two advance even deeper into the park, where a considerable Helghast force is encountered. Two Helghast APCs, a Helghast tank, and Helghast infantry make their way towards their position. Before they can pose a threat, however, Sergeant Rico Velasquez shows up, and using his powerful machinegun, he blows up the tank with a rocket, also killing part of the infantry in the process. He destroys the two APCs shortly after.

After dispersing of the Helghast force, Velasquez informs the two that General Vaughton has been captured and is kept hostage. The three join up to rescue the General. A small Helghast force was left behind at the gatehouse to defend the General, namely three Helghast elites, a base commander, and several regular infantry. While the General was saved, the command base was lost. The three were now formally turned into a squad, with orders to find Colonel Hakha, while the General made his way to the SD platform.

Strange Company[]

The squad made their way into an elevator building, where Helghast forces had taken out ISA troops stationed within. The squad dispersed of the Helghast forces while slowly advancing into the slums, where heavy fighting was taking place, and airstrikes were striking down into the street. Slowly advancing closer and closer to the mall, the squad eventually runs into a Helghast dropship, bringing with it fresh Helghast forces to take out.

Once inside the mall, it becomes clear that Hakha's unit was wiped out by the Helghast, though one of the ISA troops survived. Just before he dies, he is able to tell the squad in which direction the Helghast went with Hakha. Templar's squad now has to fight through the mall to advance on Hakha's position in the slums on the other side of the mall. A couple of other ISA units are still alive in the mall, and give some assistance in fighting back against the Helghast forces.

Making it outside again, Templar's squad advances further through the slums, where other ISA forces are fighting Helghast troops. Unfortunately, these troops are locked off from the Captain's route, and as such, cannot aid him after this encounter. Templar and his squad face off against more Helghast forces in the next street before linking up with ISA forces who are locked in a firefight with the enemy. The ISA forces inform the captain that they are scattered all over the slums, but are unable to hold the Helghast back much longer. A downed dropship blocks off part of the street. Advancing through a small part of the slums, Templar's unit comes across more Helghast forces, including one with a grenade launcher. ISA forces arrive on the scene, however, providing additional support. While the captain advances, the ISA stay behind to secure his flank.

Other ISA forces were already on their way to rescue Colonel Hakha, and were already in combat with the Helghast when the Captain arrives. Once more, Helghan forces with grenade launchers are present, as well as several elites, in attempts to keep the ISA from retrieving Hakha. Templar succeeds, however.

While securing Hakha, Rico's disproval of the Helghast nearly costs the ISA their asset, as he became too distracted to see an incoming Helghast soldier while on door duty. Hakha, however, dispersed of the soldier. Meanwhile, on the SD Platform, the information of General Vaughton's rescue was also sent through, enabling General Adams to continue with his plans.

Escape[]

This chapter starts with General Vaughton on a space shuttle, getting ready to head for the SD Platform. Templar and his crew now aim to also advance on the SD Platform to deliver Hakha to the General. Their objective is The Fortress, for which they need a boat. As such, they head for the harbor.

On the beach, however, a large Helghan force is already present. The moment they leave the city, the crew is met by a Helghast tank with infantry supporting it. They also encounter the wrecks of two ISA Lancers and the corpses of ISA soldiers. Advancing further towards the beach, another Helghast platoon is found which has to be dealt with. Not much further, two Helghast command boats drop off Helghast infantry and an APC, which are ambushed by Templar and his troops.

Only a little further, Helghast snipers and infantry have set up an ambush for Templar and his men, though they are beaten. They eventually make their way to a beach house, where ISA forces have set up a base of sorts. Here they have to face off against a Helghast landing force, which, while largely consisting of regular Helghast infantry, also includes a tank. The beachhead includes several bits of barbed wire and Czech Hedgehogs to prevent the Helghast advance from escalating. Airstrikes also occur while the attempted invasion is taking place. After defeating the attempted landing, Templar and his men make their way to the docks, where another, similar, landing is taking place. While both landings were fought off, the docks themselves were lost to Helghast forces.

The parts of the docks still held by the ISA were harassed by Helghast attack boats and infantry. While the second part of the docks could be secured, the rest was lost to the Helghast. While fighting through more and more Helghast forces, and finding corpses of their allies, a couple of ISA soldiers managed to survive by hiding out in a small warehouse. Here Templar and his forces teamed up with the ISA to beat back the Helghast in the area.

After advancing a significant part through the docks, Hakha states he needs to inform the ISA of his knowledge of the Helghast while spying on them. While Templar originally disagrees, after a small fight breaks out between the crew, he gives Hakha a couple of minutes to inform the ISA. Hakha's information was that he had learned that a computer on the SD platform had fallen to Helghast hands.

Meanwhile, on the SD Platform, General Vaughton had arrived, and General Adams had welcomed him. After Vaughton unlocked the defense systems, however, Adams' plot became clear. He had turned traitor and joined the Helghast forces under the command of General Lente. Vaughton is executed shortly after by a Helghast soldier. Not long afterwards, Hakha realises which computer had fallen to the hands of the Helghast; the computer of General Adams himself. With the defense systems now under control of General Adams, he instantly turned them against ISA forces, causing a major explosion which could be seen from the harbor where Templar and his men were.

Despite major Helghast resistance, the squad managed to make it to an area where Fast Attack Crafts were docked. The team took the crafts, and set course for the space uplink, but were intercepted by a Helghast rocket trooper. While the rockets themselves missed, the chaos caused by the attack caused the two ships to crash in a marsh.

Misty Waters[]

Inside the marsh, two Helghast attack boats and a small unit of Helghast infantry found the ISA forces, but were defeated. Templar's forces had to advance through the heavily fortified swamps, where the Helghast were patrolling with both regular units and swamp boats. There were also Assault Soldiers, however, posing a far greater challenge than any of the Helghast previously encountered. They also encounter a small Helghast encampment, which they disperse of. Along the way, they also had to deal with two small Helghast bunkers, and another Helghast encampment.

After having beaten through this encampment, however, they encountered a code 3-3 firebase, which was used for major pre-emptive strikes, and also held Rocket Barrages. While Templar originally disagrees with the plan to attack the firebase, Hakha is able to convince him of the benefit, as a confused enemy is useful. As such, they made an approach on the base.

With Hakha and Luger staying behind as a rearguard, Rico and Templar advanced on the base. Fighting their way through several Helghast, they used C4 to blow up both of the 653 Rocket Barrages. The destruction of which appeared to have drawns some attention, as shortly after their destruction, two Helghast Dropships arrived at the firebase. Fortunately for Templar, an emplaced gun for anti-air shooting was present, and could be used to shoot down the dropships.

After making it out of the swamps, a firefight was encountered between ISA forces and the Helghast, indicating that Templar's troops were getting closer to the ISA Fortress. From these troops, Templar learned that the Helghast were launching a massive assault on the Fortress. Upon defeating the Helghast, the surviving ISA forces joined up with Templar on his way to the Fortress, and while on their way, they could already see Helghast dropships heading in that direction. After a firefight at the Fortress, including the droppings from two dropships, the ISA forces get some breathing space and captain Templar is allowed to proceed. He is warned, however, that there may already be Helghast within the base. While only a short distance in the base, Templar encounters a Helghast dropship, being attacked by an ISA rocket soldier. The dropship is eventualy driven off, and a small group of Helghast approach from the other building, being killed by Templar and his troops. On the road towards the tower of the fortress, more Helghast are encountered, including a Jet Bike. The tower is well-defended, with anti-air guns being actively used near the base of the tower.

Within the tower, Templar attempted to communicate with the SD platform, however, prior to their arrival, General Adams had told the soldiers on Vekta that Templar and his men, alongside Vaughton, had been traitors. From this one soldier, Templar had to learmn of Vaughton's death.

Meanwhile, on the SD Platform, General Adams was attempting to collaborate further with General Lente and boasted of the ISA questioning whose side his on. Unfortunate news for Adams, however, was that Hakha's involvement, the destruction of the code 3-3 firebase, and other such accomplishments came to light. So Adams set up a ruse, sending a false message that he would come down to a GPS beacon, which the SD Platform uses to map out the terrain, to get Templar and his men off their course.

Hunting The Traitor[]

From a Helghast corpse, Hakha learned of Adam's message, and relayed it to Templar, unknowing that it was a ruse. As such, the team set out to capture the GPS beacon. In these swamps, the team encounters their first sentrybot, and need to destroy it to proceed further. Helghast a little further down will point out how their pilots keep crashing, and remark how they are happy to not be in the Air Cavalary. Along the way, they are also ambushed by some Helghast Light Infantry. Shortly after, more of the skill of Helgan's pilots is encountered, as a Helgast Dropship is seen barely flying, followed up by it crashing down. After fighting a Helghast unit which arrived to salvage the wreckage, the team advanced further.

A little further down their road, three APCs, two of which had attached machineguns, and a couple of Helghast soldiers were stationed and had to be killed in order to advance. Proceeding further upstream, the team had to deal with several small Helghast patrols. Further upstream, however, a minor Helghast base had been put up, including a couple of sentrybots to defend it. Only a small distance away from the base, precise artillery strikes were direct at Templar's squad, being laser-guided. The squad had to advance through a trench system while under machinegun fire, defeating Helghast along the way, to arrive at the base with the GPS beacon.

Arriving at the base, the team learned that Adams had set them up, resulting in Rico assaulting Hakha, as he mistrusted him. The team eventually did decide to move on together, this time having the powerful laser-guided artillery on their side.

At the SD Platform, Adams responded angrily to the news of the base failing to stop Templar. As such, General Lente mistrusted Adams to take care of the ISA, and took charge himself, going down to Vekta himself. Mockinly stating that Scolar Visari would hear of General Adam's efforts.

Forging A Path[]

With the new laser-guided artillery, the team has a powerful weapon in their hands. They quickly encounter an APC loading up on supplies with a number of troops, providing a great opportunity to test the device. Only a little further, another two APCs and a Helghast tank are encountered, which are another great pair of targets for the artillery. Just around the corner, a Helghast base is encountered, being heavily fortified with another APC nearby. Another suitable target for the artillery.

A little further from the base, two sentrybots, two watchtowers, a tank and an APC need to be defeated in order to advance into the jungle, from where the team had to advance into the mountains to get to the SD uplink.

Inside the jungle, they quickly encountered an APC supported by Helghast infantry, and while on the roads, they encountered small units of Helghasts. They eventually found a base of sorts, with a Pnv-3 Siska Squad Cannon and the means to continue their advance. Deeper in the jungle, they encountered a sniper and other small platoons of Helghasts, as well as an APC. Not much further down the road, a bridge was located which the Helghast used to transport their troops and vehicles from one side of the jungle to the other. Protected by watchtowers and Helghast infantry, it was deemed of vital importance to destroy the bridge to sabotage the Helghast war effort. Two Jet Bikes also passed by the bridge, in a fast attempt to take down Templar and his troops. The squad succeeded, and landed upon a Helghast Logistics base, which they decided to destroy and search for a means of transport.

At the base, the team had to fight off against several Helghasts in bunkers, on their own, and on anti-air guns. Within the base, they collected C4, and used it to blow up three ammunition depots. Templar was sent in on his own to capture the commander of the base.

With limited information, Templar and his team decided to advance on the Helghast Missile Base, as they had no other way to get to the SD Platform in time, gambling on hitching a ride from there.

At the same time, General Lente was headed to the same base to take the fight on himself. General Adams, on the other hand, got worse news than before when learning that bridge over the 32nd river was destroyed, and both the 10th and 11th company were destroyed by Templar and his troops. As a result, Adam became so mad, he killed the messenger.

Hidden Pasts[]

Near the missile base, Templar and his team came upon a Helghast garrison at a small tunnel leading to the base, within which the wreck of two ISA lancers were found. A Helghast APC came delivering reinforcements. Helghast Elites also arrived on the scene to keep the ISA from getting to the base.

Once near the missile base, the team observed missiles which were headed towards Vekta City to advance the Helghast war effort. Just outside the walls, the corpses of two ISA soldiers were also found, showing the fate of those within the base. Within the base itself, numerous Helghast Elites tried their best to fight back against Templar's forces, throwing everything they had at the squad, but ultimately failing. Three APCs were sent out to fight back, but those, too, were destroyed.

Just as the squad approached the entrance of the base, another missile was launched, and more Helghast Elites were sent out. The squad advanced into the base, determined to stop the Helghast from using their own weapons against them. Within the base, numerous Helghast Elites, alongside regular Helghast infantry, tried their best to kill the ISA forces, but failed. Base commanders of the Helghast were also present, getting killed by the squad.

Hakha and Luger then locked the missles, while Templar and Rico had to order the launch of the missiles. Because of the safety protocol, this would shut down the whole system. Having successfully done so, the team advanced further into the base, coming across the corpses of many ISA soldiers along the way. Approaching the end of the base, the final elites, and more Assault Soldiers, were the final obstacles standing between Templar and General Lente.

Having defeated Lente, Hakha's backstory is revealed. He used to be a great friend of the general, having served as his Chief of Staff. Lente mocks Hakha, disconnecting him from his family, aside from his brother, who looked up to him. Something Lente put an end to when he had him executed. Hakha, in response, executes Lente on the spot.

General Adams, watching from above, saw the whole ordeal take place. As such, he ordered the platform to be sealed off and the guard patrols to be doubled, expecting Templar and his troops to come up to the SD platform eventually.

Onwards And Upwards[]

Having beaten Lente, Templar and his forces use his dropship to land in the mountains, and slowly advance on the SD Uplink. Along the way, they come across a Helghast patrol looking for them, which needs to be taken out. They also need to fight through a hillside, where a considerable Helghast force consisting of Helghast elites, regular Helghasts, a rocket unit, and a base commander is awaiting them. Further down, even more units, alongside two machine guns, are encountered as well as a sentrybot.

The team eventually makes it to a small base in the snow, where they aim to take out the AA gun in order to advance towards the SD Uplink. On the ground two jet bikes can be found, but they cannot be used or destroyed. Approaching an old weather station, which they would use to send a signal to the OTS central computer to open the back door. Atop the staircase leading up to the weather station, two Assault Soldiers are found, whereas in the rest of the station, Helghast Elites are primarily encountered. Atop the station, a landed dropship is also found.

Proceeding into the valley behind the weather station, Helghast Elites need to be defeated, as well as two sentrybots and an Assault Soldier wearing a Pnv-3 Siska Squad Cannon.

A little bit further, another Helghast base is found, with two more dismounted Jet Bikes, several elites, and another Sentrybot. Upon approaching the SD Uplink itself, a shuttle is sent out to space, while other Assault Soldiers come out to meet Templar and his troops in combat. Defeating the Assault Soldiers, Templar's forces advance into the uplink base.

Hope[]

With the base having been overrun a while ago, the Helghast presence is strong, with many Helghast Assault Soldiers present, as well as many Helghast Elites. Templar's forces put a shuttle up towards the launch pad, and get ready to set the course for the SD Platform. Upon sending the shuttle up, four Assault Soldiers appear, investigating what happened. Defeating the Assault Soldiers, Templar's force has to fight through many Helghast Elites before getting to the top of the uplink station. Once there, they must destroy four sentrybots, slay several Assault Soldiers, and activate the launch sequence.

While flying towards the SD Platform, the team is amazed by the way it looks. However, they also notice Parasite craft attached to the base, used by the Helghast to dock troops. Once aboard the SD Platform, they had to move quickly to prevent the Helghast from using the SD weaponry against the Earth Fleet. Fighting through units of Assault Soldiers, Helghast Elites, and a base commander, the team get aboard a lift leading up to the main station. While on the lift, however, the Earth Fleet arrives in part, but also loses part of it when the SD weaponry target the fleet. The fleet, likewise, fired on the SD Platform. The team split up; Hakha would take care of the parasite craft, Rico would kill any Helghast he came across, Templar would sabotage the cooling system, as this would take the SD weaponry offline, and Luger would hack into the communications core to request the Earth fleet to stop firing.

Having done so, one of the three managed to get to Adams first; having to face off against many Helghast soldiers, Elites, and Assault troopers, and even bodyguards like the ones General Lente had. Upon defeating Adams, the SD Platform gets bombarded by the Earth fleet, all the while Templar and his forces fight off Helghast forces while getting a shuttle ready for launch. The team eventually manages to get off the SD Platform just in time to escape its destruction by the Earth fleet. Flying out into space, the team sees that most of the Earth fleet managed to survive.
