Humans are the primary race of the Killzone universe, native to planet Earth. Well into the 22th-24th century, humanity had colonised the Alpha Centauri system and thrived particularly on the planet Vekta, leaving their Helghast counterparts to inherit the inferior but resource rich Helghan.

History[]

Descending from primates, Humans are an intellectually and technologically advanced species that span many cultures, creeds and organisations. During the 2050's, Earth's natural resources had reached the point of drying out, and the nations fought viciously to scramble together the remains of what could be used. The Third World War was declared, and nuclear weaponry was employed to commit unfathomable degrees of destruction.

When the dust settled and the harrowing consequences of war were on display, the nations saw an urgent need to seek a place other than Earth to house humanity. The United Colonial Nations coalition was formed shortly after the war, and it set the stage for inter-galactic travel as far as the Alpha Centauri system.

Initially colonised by the UCN in the 2100's, the Alpha Centauri system was entirely brokered to private enterprise, with a considerable amount of profit owing to the Helghan Corporation.

Due to differing economic and political goals, the UCN and the Helghan Administration clashed in the First Extrasolar War, with the Helghasts losing a vast amount of their profit, and the colonists cast to the less than hospitable planet of Helghan. There a new kind of human evolved to be superior in every aspect, clad with pale and hairless bodies. They came to be known as the Helghast.

The more Earth-like planet of Vekta was taken from Helghast control and gifted to UCN loyal humans that mushroomed into thriving cities like Vekta City, supervised by the UCN controlled ISA.

By the 24th century, the Helghasts reformed into a militaristic regime under Scolar Visari, and entered into conflict with the ISA Alpha Centauri and United Colonial Army over control of Vekta. Unfortunately, a potent Petrusite sourced bio-weapon pioneered by the likes of Jorhan Stahl detonated over Helghan, causing untold collateral damage and forcing the Helghasts to relocate somewhere else.

An agreement was signed for Helghan's residents to inhabit a part of Vekta and establish their own rule with New Helghan in 2361. The already tense circumstances were heightened by the rampant prejudice on both sides, and the cold war that came to fruition out of the VSA Shadow Marshal's clandestine operations and the Helghan based Black Hand's terrorist activities that disrupted the day to day life of many Vektans.

It was only a matter of time before another catastrophic event gained traction, and the human race was on the verge of extinction at the hands of it's own devices.
