“Jammer” is a supporting character in Killzone 3. She is an ISA corporal and one of the survivors marooned on Helghan following the failure of Operation Archangel. She and her platoon were rescued by Rico Velasquez and together formed 'Rico's Raiders'.

Biography[]

Jammer participated in Operation Archangel, in which she and her platoon attempted to flee during the ISA's chaotic evacuation from Helghan. She was cut off from her platoon in which she and her men desperately radioed for assistance; her request was answered by Captain Jason Narville who sent Intruders to extract her and her men. Unfortunately the Intruders were then shot down and Narville could not spare anyone else to help her. But Rico Velasquez disobeyed Narville and went to their aid instead. The evacuation became for naught as the remaining ISA ships were down by MAWLRs or fled, effectively stranding the remaining invasion forces on Helghan. Jammer, Rico and the other ISA soldiers were separated from Narville's group.

During the six months marooned on Helghan, Rico had gathered whatever troops and hardware he could and formed the Raiders, with Jammer as his second-in-command. They later investigate Jorhan Stahl's activities conducted at one of his facilities. Their investigation led them to discover that Narville and Tomas Sevchenko have been captured by Stahl's men. The Raiders launched a daring assault and rescued Sev but lost Narville's dropship. This then unfolds into a prolonged assault on numerous defense platforms, allowing to clear apath.

Jammer and the rest of the Raiders were then ordered by Rico to return to base and to look for Narville's men, while he and Sev infiltrate Stahl's base on their own. After Narville was saved, Jammer and the Raiders arrived at Stahl's base, clearly disobeying Rico's orders but Rico himself didn't mind it at all as they needed to be evacuated anyway. Jammer was then ordered to take Narville and the other freed POWs back to base to prepare and set out to chase after Stahl, who was planning to launch a surprise attack on Earth.

Jammer, alongside Narville and the rest of the ISA remnants, travelled to the space elevator, leading to the space station where Stahl and Admiral Orlock's forces were meeting. Upon arriving, they became trapped in an irradiated petrusite grid. Jammer then helped Sev and Rico's plan to hijack a mobile factory and use it to disable the grid; in which she commandeered an ISA Jeep to hastily rescue Sev and Rico from a grizzly death from the mobile factory's shredding apparatus before driving behind one of the factory's treads, so they can climb on it. After Sev and Rico disabled the grid, Jammer pilots an Intruder in another hasty bid to rescue them as the factory begins to implode.

Shortly after the rescue, Rico enters a heated exchange with Narville over the radio. After the Intruder lands Jammer asks a seething Rico what he's thinking in an attempt to comfort him, to which he responds that he thinks "Narville's a fucking idiot" and then orders Jammer to go on another Intruder in case something bad happens.

During the ISA engagement with Stahl's army and a MAWLR, Jammer's Intruder was shot down, but she survives the crash with only minor injury. She later joined with Narville on another Intruder to rescue Sev from Capture Troopers and is saved by Rico when a Capture Trooper boards their Intruder. After rescuing Sev, the remaining ISA finally destroyed the MAWLR.

Thereafter, they board the space elevator. Jammer access the space station's communications center and attempt to warn Earth. At some deliberation, Rico contacts Jammer to rescind warning Earth and instead to access strike fighters. At this time, Jammer was engaged in a fist fight with a Helghast soldier in order to obtain the key card, and is saved by Hooper when being caught in a choke hold.

After getting access, Jammer and Hooper rejoined the others at the docked strike fighters; in which Jammer becomes the pilot and Hooper as a co-pilot. Alongside the strike fighter piloted by Sev and Rico, they fought through the space battle between Stahl and Orlock's fleets, chasing Stahl all the way to the Khage. They assaulted the Stahl's ship, preventing its launch towards Earth by disabling its warp drive engine. Ultimately, Sev and Rico's strike fighter launched a nuke at the Khage and indirectly unleashing its payload of irradiated petrusite to ignite and devastate the entire surface of Helghan. Jammer was left in shock of the devastation in which she points out she could not up any radio traffic on the planet, stating "the entire planet is silent."

Afterwards, Jammer presumably returned to Vekta with the other survivors, and went into hiding to avoid the surviving Helghast. However, she would not be branded with the same notoriety as Sev and Rico.

Characteristics[]

Jammer is a young woman of Hispanic heritage and is always seen with a hood over her head and eye black. She is relatively laid-back, witty, easy-going, and is hardly ever seen stressed. She respects Rico's leadership, but like Rico, she would wave off "bullshit orders" from time to time, something she states that Rico himself taught. She has been credited and self-regarded as crazy, one such occasion being when she was forced to drive through the dangerous apparatus of a garbage shredder in a hasty rescue to save Sev and Rico from being killed by it.

She appears to possess some technical skill, including knowledge of the Helghast alphabet and their mechanical and computer systems, also like Luger, Jammer shows impressive skills in both hand to hand and ranged combat, though she can be overwhelmed, like at the end of Killzone 3 on the Space Station, she requires the help from Hooper to subdue the Helghast guarding the keycard. She's an excellent fighter pilot, using both an ISA Intruder and a Helghast Strike Ship extremely well. However, she can get a bit reckless, like as when she tries to land her Intruder to pick up Sev and Rico, but constantly dodges RPG fire in the process.

Conversations[]

Pyrrhus Evac[]

Show: Arc Cannon Destroyed

Sev: "Head for the extraction point. Rico and I will follow in the HAMRs."
Jammer: "We need assistance. I repeat. Mayday. This is Jammer. Over. Can anyone hear us?"
Rico: "My name is Sergeant Velasquez. I can hear you. Over."
Jammer: "Oh, thank god. We're in quadrant 4-4-1. We've been cut off and need assistance."
Rico: "Alright, stay calm, Jammer. Send me your exact coordinates and we'll come get you."
Narville: "That's a negative, Velasquez! Jammer, hang tight. Intruders are on their way. You have your orders, Velasquez. Stick to the plan and clear the path to the extraction point. NOW!"
(MAWLR arrives near Sev and Rico, crushing their HAMR and firing at an ISA cruiser)
Cruiser ISA: "Dispersive armor is holding."
Cruiser Captain: "Captain Narville, we can't hold our position much longer. If you're going to get here, do it fast."
(Back at Sev and Rico)
Sev: "We're gonna need new transport. Come on. Get to your evac posts."

Show: Rico's Orders

Jammer: "Captain Narville, this is Jammer. Do you read? Our platoon is pinned down by heavy enemy fire. Captain Narville, we can't stay here. Where are those Intruders?"
Narville: "This is Narville. I'm sorry. If they didn't make it... There's no-one else I can send."
Rico: "I'll go."
Narville: "Velasquez. Stick to your orders!"
Rico: "Fuck your orders. I didn't come here to run from the Helghast. I don't leave people behind. Hold on, Jammer. I'm coming."
Sev: "Rico...! I get it but we don't have time."
Rico: "I gotta do this man. I'll meet you at the extraction point."
Sev: "Hell no. I'm with you."
Rico: "This was on me buddy. Besides you gotta tell Narville to wait, okay?"

Stahl Arms Infiltration[]

Show: Escaping Stahl Arms

Narville: "Stay focused! Collect their weapons"
Sev: "Captain. We've got a problem."
(After Stahl's cutscene)
Sev: "Captain."
Narville: "It's not our job to reignite this... war..."
(The Khage passes overhead)
Sev: "We don't have to. They're doing it for us."
Narville: "Allright. If we're doing this, we need to regroup and plan this out properly. That cruiser is heading to a space port. We commandeer it, then warn Earth. How the fuck are we getting out of here?"
Rico: "Jammer! Didn't I order you to get back to camp?"
Jammer: "Never follow a bullshit order. You must be Narville."
Rico: "Jammer. Get Narville back to his men. We'll stay in radio contact as long as we can."

Scrapyard Shortcut[]

Show: Petrusite fence

Rico: "There they are."
Sev: "Smells like Ozone."
Rico: "How can you smell anything?"
(Petrusite fence starts)
Rico: "What the fuck!"
(Cuts to the ISA convoy)
Narville: "Nobody move! Everyone stand absolutely still. Do not move, soldier."
ISA: "What the hell? What's going on? Oh god. I can't do this. I can't do this! I can't do this! I got to get out of here. I got to get out. (Gets hit by Petrusite) No! No, no, NO!"
Rico: "Jammer, what's going on?"
Jammer: "Sir, we just lost five guys. Narville's gonna hack the fence. Stand by..."
Narville: "Alright Hooper. Now, slowly!"
(Cuts back to Rico and Sev)
Rico: "We need something faster than this. (Sees scrapyard machine) Or bigger. Jammer, we're making a move on the mobile factory. Can you fly?"
Jammer: "Negative. But I can find something else."
Rico: "Roger. Meet us at the factory."

Show: Regroup with Jammer

Rico: "Jammer, we're almost at the factory. What's your ETA?"
Jammer: "Couple more minutes."
Rico: "Same here. See you in a second. (Heavy Helghast shows up) 'Kay... maybe a little longer."

The Reckoning[]

Show: Different orders

Rico: "Alright, people. Let's move out. Raiders, I want a full sweep. Kilo protocol."
Narville: "Cancel that order, Raiders. This is the Captain. Hold fire and stay in defensive position."
Rico: "Narville, that doesn't make sense. We need to--"
Narville: "Get me a secure line soldier. (On the secure line) Sergeant, don't you ever question me on an open channel again."
Rico: "You want to listen to what I have to say before you say no?"
Narville: "Velasquez, apart from being ill-conceived and poorly executed, your plans cost more lives than they save."
Rico: "MY plans cost lives? How many people did you -- Look, all I'm saying is we need to scout ahead. Okay?"
Narville: "You have your orders sergeant, this is not a discussion."
Rico: "Motherfucker!"
Sev: "Just let it go, man. Just try and do what he's asking?"
Rico: "Sure."
Jammer: "What are you thinking?"
Rico: "I'm thinking Narville's a fuckin' idiot. I want you on Raider two in case something goes wrong."
Jammer: "Yes, sir."

Show: MAWLR destruction

Rico: "That's what I'm talking 'bout! This is it? 60 guys?"
ISA: "There are no ships down here. The only way off this planet are those space elevators."
Narville: "There's just not enough of us left."
Rico: "Look. If we're going down. Let's take as many of these bastards as we can. I want it to mean something."
Jammer: "They gotta have communications room up in that station, right?"
Narville: "What? Warn Earth?"
Rico: "Is that all we can do?"
Narville: "You did your best son. We all did. All right, people. Fall in."
Sev: "No, no. That's bullshit! Do you realize the odds against us still being here? Right here, right now? None of us should be alive. And that means something. Now listen up! We've all seen what the Helghast do to their prisoners. And if we can save even one person from that... ...but if I'm going down, I want to make sure these bastards remember my fucking name."
Rico: "And THAT is why you don't fuck with the ISA!"
Narville: "Has a way with words, doesn't he?"
Sev: "Which elevator will start you closest to the communication center?"
Jammer: "That one."
Sev: "Get the warning out. We'll take the other one. Find a way to delay the launch."
ISA: "How?"
Sev: "Deorbit the space station. Let's move! Jammer's away!"
Narville: "Prepare for laser ignition. Good luck people."

Interception[]

Show: Pier 2

Rico: "They're firing on each other."
Sev: "Look at that. (Watches the battleships) That's the same type of ship we saw earlier. Did anyone see where those went?"
Narville: "The second pier. I like your thinking Sevchenko"
Rico: "Jammer, forget the communications room. We need access to those strike ships."
Jammer: "Way ahead of you, boss."
Narville: "Alright troops. This is our chance. We regroup at Pier 2 and take command of the strike ships... ...it's the only way we can prevent Stahl's ships from reaching Earth. Let's head out! This is it boys."

Show: The Terracide

Sev: "Jammer! Hooper! MOVE!"
Rico: "Jammer. Are you there? Jammer. Respond!"
Jammer: "What did I tell you guys about leaving before the explosions start?"
Hooper: "Guys, looks like we'll be coming up on the space station in a second."
Sev: "Oh my god."
Jammer: "I'm not hearing any comm traffic."
Rico: "We took out the whole fleet."
Jammer: "I mean nothing. The entire planet is silent."
Sev: "Jesus, how many people were down there?"

Trivia[]

  • She is the fifth woman to appear in the series (after General Vaughton's communication officer, Luger, Evelyn Batton, and Hera Visari), and the third woman to actively take part in battles. She is the first woman in the series to be a grunt soldier rather than a higher ranking individual.
  • Considering that she serves in the military, realistically she wouldn't be allowed to have hair as long as she has and/or have it let down. Due to it obstructing head equipment like helmets and gas masks.
  • It's possible (though uncertain) that Jammer and Rico have some feelings for each other. In the six months they were forced to work together to survive, they seemed to have grown a relationship similar to Rico and Sev's. Jammer is the only person besides Sev whom Rico trusts enough to be his second-in-command.
  • In the novel Killzone: Ascendancy, Sev admired friendly Jammer's and at the end of the novel he said he's going to buy her a drink and maybe a burger even though Sev loves having fun with Rico.
  • In Killzone: Shadow Fall, in multiplayer, there is an accolade of Jammer, entitling her as "The Corporal".
