Killzone is a first-person and third-person shooter series of video games created by Guerilla Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The story focuses on the continuous war between the Vektan ISA and the Helghast.

Setting

Killzone takes place in the 24th century, where nuclear war had rendered Earth nearly uninhabitable and the world governments formed the United Colonial Nations to colonize extrasolar planets, which includes two planets in Alpha Centauri: the rich Earth-like Vekta and the inhospitable yet mineral-rich Helghan. The Helghast, a race of mutated humans and descendants of the original colonists of Vekta, galvanized under the xenophobic and militaristic Helghan Empire led by Scolar Visari who sought to retake Vekta and take control of Earth and its colonies. The Second Extrasolar War broke out between the Helghast and Vektans which ended in the complete devastation of Helghan. The survivors of Helghan are granted refuge on Vekta, where they established New Helghan and live in an uneasy peace with their Vektan neighbors.
