Doctor Mandor Savic was a Helghast scientist and weapons developer, and a defector who seeks the protection of the ISA. He appears in Killzone: Mercenary.

Biography[]

Savic was born into a family of intellectuals. He was educated at the Pyrrhus Academy, in the Institute of Science and Technology.[1] His father was Professor Torr Savic, a scientist responsible for the early development of Arc technology.

His family was imprisoned for treason when his father objected to the diversion of this technology from civil applications to weapon development. Mandor was spared in order to continue his father's research to assure his family's well-being.[1]

After psychological evaluations, he was seen as a brilliant scientist, in awe of his father and his idealism, but lacking his courage and resenting its cost to the family.[1] His colleagues reported him loyal to the Helghan state and dedicated to secure its future through scientific advances.[1]

Projection Eschaton and Defection[]

Savic was ordered by Colonel Vyktor Kratek, under threat of his family's safety, to create a bioweapon based on a virus that Kratek stole on Vekta. The doctor had presumed that the bioweapon would be used merely as a deterrent, but soon learned about Kratek's true intentions in which he wanted to use it on Vekta. Unwilling to unleash the bioweapon on innocent lives, Savic installed a plasmid trigger site in the virus's RNA codes that made it non-contagious, thus making the virus useless without the trigger, and fled with it.[2]

He sought to defect to the ISA through the aid of Ambassador Sepp Harkin, including conditions that he would be given protection and would not be labeled as a war criminal. When Kratek's men stormed the Vektan Embassy, Savic, under panic, injected the plasmid trigger into Harkin's son, Justus; he believed the child had the best chance of leaving the Embassy alive and reaching the ISA, as Kratek's men would be more focus on finding and capturing Savic. After the embassy fell to the Helghast, Savic fled to the docks and used one of the boats to flee to the black market area of Pyrrhus

He later contacted the mercenary, Arran Danner, who was sent by Admiral Alex Grey to rescue him, and explained his situation and told Danner to meet him at a bar on the upper levels. However, when Danner met him, Kratek's troops discovered his location after Savic breaks radio silence. He escaped with Justus whilst Danner gave both of them time to rendezvous with Anders Benoit. Savic, Justus and Danner successfully escaped, and Savic was brought to the Admiral.

Remorse[]

However, instead of the protection he was promised, Savic was instead interrogated by Grey, who wanted to use the bioweapon to destroy the Helghast. Savic was forced to reveal the location of Facility X01 that held the virus. However, he did not informed Grey about the viral vault that contained the bioweapon required his access codes. After Grey left with Justus and Benoit, he was left tortured by ISA soldiers. However, he was rescued by Danner who was currently working under Kratek to retrieve Savic's access codes. Before revealing the codes, he told Danner to switch off his communications for fear of Kratek listening. He revealed to Danner about the plasmid trigger's location in Justus in which Savic sincerely regretted for putting the boy's life in danger. He urged Danner to stop Grey before giving him the vault's access codes. Savic then slumped to the floor, feeling remorse and guilt for what he had done.

  • Although he can be spared, it is presumed that he dies anyway due to Scolar Visari nuking Pyrrhus City.
  • Savic's survival is left to the player's decision in which they will receive a different trophy; killing Savic unlocks the "Executioner" trophy. Sparing him unlocks the "Reprieve" trophy.
