Mathijs was educated at the Fontys University of Applied Sciences and majored in computer science. He joined Lost Boys Games in 1997 where he would work on several handheld titles as game director. He would work on Guerilla's first title ShellShock: 'Nam 76 as a Lead Artist.
He returned as game director for Killzone: Liberation, Killzone 2, and Killzone 3. He worked as game director again on Guerilla's new IP, Horizion Zero Dawn.
